Dronenburg Homers Twice And The Cougars Advance Past William Carey (Miss.) 9-3

GULF SHORES, Ala.(Box Score)Brenna Sandberg (41-9) out-dueled Anna Ard (31-4) in a matchup of talented pitchers to get the win. Sandberg struck out six and allowed three runs on five hits in a complete-game effort. Ard surrendered seven earned runs on eight hits in seven innings while walking five and fanning nine.

 

Alyssa Dronenburg shined at the plate for the Cougars, belting a pair of home runs for five RBIs and drawing a pair of walks in the cleanup spot. Dronenburg also showed off some speed with a pair of stolen bases. Heavin-Lee Rodriguez finished 3-for-4 at the dish for Cal State San Marcos.

 

Shana Gunter, Judy Barber and Jasmine Shelby each finished 1-for-3 with one RBI at the plate for William Carey.

The Lady Crusaders struck first with RBI singles from Gunter and Beckman in the bottom of the first, but the Cougars took control with nine runs between the third and sixth innings. They knotted it up with a pair in the third and took command with a three-run fourth.

 

Dronenburg jacked a two-run bomb in the third and then after a pair of two-out singles kept the fourth alive, she drilled a three-run shot to put her team ahead for good.

 

William Carey ends its season at 54-8.
