Lubbock Christian (Texas) Advances Out Of Pool Play With Run-Rule Victory Over Reinhardt (Ga.)

GULF SHORES, Ala.(Box Score) Lubbock Christian (Texas) run-ruled Reinhardt (Ga.) 8-0 in five innings on the final day of pool play action at the 2011 NAIA Softball National Championship Saturday at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.

 

The victory moves Lubbock Christian into a three-way tie with Simpson (Calif.) and Simon Fraser (B.C.) at 2-1 in pool play. The Lady Chaps advance to the eight-team double-elimination bracket starting May 23 at 10 a.m. CDT courtesy of holding the run-differential tie-breaker.

 

Alyssa Freight (13-4) dominated in the circle for Lubbock Christian, allowing only two base runners in five innings of action. Kelsey Floyd (10-6) took the loss after giving up eight runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings of work. Freight’s only hit allowed came with one out in the first.

 

Serving as the home team, the Lady Chap batters needed only four innings to put up the eight runs, scoring in all but the third.

 

Kim Frazier started the scoring for the Lady Chaps with a two-run single in the first, and Priscilla FaGaines capped a two-run second with a RBI-double.

 

In the fourth inning, the Lady Chaps used a two-run error and Frazier’s 22nd home run of the season to build the 8-0 advantage.

 

Frazier finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs, Sally Blackwell finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored and FaGaines finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored for Lubbock.
