Morningside (Iowa) Run-Rules Asbury 10-0 in Final Day of Pool Play Action

GULF SHORES, Ala.(Box Score) Morningside’s (Iowa) offense exploded for 10 runs in the 10-0, five-inning victory over Asbury (Ky.) on the final day of pool play action at the 2011 NAIA Softball National Championship Saturday. The Mustangs had been out-scored 15-0 in their previous two games.

 

Morningside capitalized on four Asbury errors to score all of their runs in unearned fashion. The Mustangs posted nine singles overall and one triple by Erin Bohlmann.

 

After taking a 3-0 lead in the second inning, Morningside plated seven more in the third. Twelve batters came up to the plate for the Mustangs and there were six hits and three errors in the inning. At one point, seven consecutive batters reached base on either a hit or error. The hitting forced out Asbury starter Kelsey Robinson.

 

Bohlmann, Kylie Helmink and Mackenzie Neely finished their day with two hits for Morningside. Bohlmann posted three RBIs and two runs scored.

 

Jordan Johnson improved to 18-5 on the year going 5.2 innings for the Mustangs. She struck out six and walked three. Robinson fell to 5-3 for Asbury after going 2.1 innings.

 

Mary Ann Warford and Jessica Johnson each laced a single for the Eagles.

 

Morningside went 1-2 in Pool D and ends its season at 46-11. Meanwhile, Asbury finished with a 0-3 record in Pool D and completes its year at 20-13.
