Tournament's Fifth No-Hitter Sends Lancers To Bracket Play

May 21, 2011

GULF SHORES, Ala.(Box Score) California Baptist defeated MidAmerican Nazarene (Kan.) 10-0 on the final day of pool play at the 2011 NAIA Softball National Championship Saturday.

Cal Baptist Wins Pool A with a 3-0 record and will face Oklahoma City Monday at 10 a.m. CDT in the eight-team double-elimination bracket.

Emma Holden tossed the fifth no-hitter of the tournament as she struck out 10 Pioneer batters in seven shutout innings, allowing only one walk.

After a one-out walk in the first, Holden set down fifteen straight hitters before hitting a batter with one out in the sixth. That base runner was caught stealing and Holden cruised the rest of the way, fanning the final two hitters of the game.

Behind Holden, the Lancer bats pounded out 14 hits to guarantee victory. Briana Corral finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs, Tina Galinato went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Nicole Shoemaker added a 2-for-3 effort at the plate.

The Lancers put up multiple runs in the second, fourth, sixth and seventh to roll to the shutout victory.

Starr White started the scoring with a two-out pinch hit, two-run double in the second and another two-out rally plated three in the fourth. After an infield single extended the inning, Galinato and Corral combined to drive in the three runs to put the team in firm control of the game.

MidAmerica Nazarene finished 1-2 in Pool A.
