LUBBOCK, Texas - No. 3 Lubbock Christian University (Texas) claimed its second straight Sooner Athletic Conference regular season title on April 29 at PlainsCapital Park. The Lady Chaparrals swept Rogers State University (Okla.) 12-2 and 14-4. In between the games, four Lady Chap seniors - Daniella Garcia, Clarissa Maldonado, Jen Frazier and Alyssa Gutierrez - were honored for their outstanding effort and contributions to the Lubbock Christian softball program.

Kim Frazier led off for LCU in the first game and in a rare sighting, the Rogers State players all shifted to the left side of the field except for the first baseman. And doing what Frazier does, she hit an opposite field double to start off the first game of the doubleheader. Up next, Kayla Van Dieren singled to right field to score Frazier. In the second inning, the Lady Chaps scored three runs on four hits and two Hillcat errors. Van Dieren recorded two more RBI during the game after driving in Clarissa Maldonado and Cori Enriquez, who were aboard following singles. Latainna Eltsosie also recorded an RBI in the inning.

Lubbock Christian extended its lead in the third inning to 8-0, scoring four runs on three hits. Amanda Myers led off the inning with a solo home run for her sixth homer of the season. Later in the inning, after Enriquez reached on a fielder's choice and Frazier walked, Van Dieren hit a three-run home run, which is her eighth of the season. The Hillcats got a run in the fourth inning off two hits and an LCU error. In the fourth inning, Myers hit her second home run of the game and her seventh of the season. Frazier recorded the other RBI in the inning to bring her total to 100 RBI on the season, setting a new NAIA single-season record. Rogers State got a run in the fifth inning to bring the final score to 12-2.

Alyssa Gutierrez got the win for the Lady Chaps, giving up one run on three hits in six complete innings. Gutierrez's record improved to 34-2. Taryn Hernandez recorded the loss for the Hillcats, giving up 12 runs on 15 hits in 3 1/3 innings. Her record dropped to 15-9. Van Dieren and Myers were the offensive workhorses for the Lady Chaps, recording 6-of-16 hits and 10-of-12 runs-batted-in. Van Dieren went 4-for-4, driving in six runs, and Myers went 2-for-3 with two home runs and four RBI.

The second game started with Gutierrez retiring the side in order in the top of the inning and the Lady Chaps scoring 11 runs on five hits and eight base on balls. Four runs were scored before the first out was recorded. Seventeen batters went to the plate in the inning, including, including 10 different Lady Chaps. In the third inning, Rogers State scored four runs on four hits to cut the lead to 11-4. In the bottom of the inning, the Lady Chaps scored three insurance runs off of one hit and three Hillcat errors.

Gutierrez got the start for LCU, but only pitched two innings. Jori Rodgers pitched to start the third inning and finished the game. She gave up four runs on eight hits in three innings. She got the win and improved her record to 14-2. Linsey Curtis recorded the loss for the Hillcats, giving up 11 runs on five hits in one inning. Her record dropped to 0-1. Amanda Parsons went 2-for-2 in the game with two RBI. Myers went 2-4 with an RBI.

Lubbock Christian (50-4, 29-3) finished with an unblemished record at home at 22-0. Rogers State dropped its record to 34-22 overall and 15-17 in Sooner Athletic Conference. This was the final series of the season for the Lady Chaps, who will travel to Oklahoma City, Okla., for the SAC Conference Tournament May 7 - 8 at Hall of Fame Stadium.
