Oldham and Gomez Earn Final NAIA Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Ashley Oldham of Texas Wesleyan has been named the NAIA National Softball Pitcher of the Week and Lee’s (Tenn.) Johana Gomez has been tabbed the NAIA National Softball Player of the Week, the National Office announced Tuesday. Oldham and Gomez were selected based on their performances from April 19 - 25. The pair was chosen out of a pool of conference player of the week selections.

Oldham pitched the Lady Rams to their first Red River Athletic Conference regular season championship by posting a 0.40 ERA in 17.1 innings of work last week. In the first of four games, Oldham shut down Bacone (Okla.) with a perfect game en route to a 4-0 win. She fanned five batters and allowed just one ball out of the infield. The senior then closed the week with her 17th shutout, a Texas Wesleyan record, on Senior Day in a 6-0 victory over University of the Southwest (N.M.). Oldham allowed just four hits while striking out eight Mustangs.

A native of Watauga, Texas, Oldham has an 11-4 record, along with four saves, from the circle for a 1.71 ERA in 106.1 innings pitched. Her four saves ranks fourth nationally.

Gomez had nine hits in 12 trips (.750) to the plate in four wins last week for the second-ranked Lady Flames. She blasted four home runs and doubled twice, scored six times and knocked in 10 runs. For the year, Gomez is hitting .509 with 14 homers, 20 doubles and 75 RBI. The senior has only struck out four times in 175 at-bats.

Hailing from Pirito, Venezuela, Gomez ranks among the top-20 nationally in 23 (batting and pitching combined) statistical categories. At the plate, her 89 total hits are tops in the nation, while she is listed second in total bases (155) and RBIs (75).
