Columbia Earns Program's 1,000th Victory; Split with No. 24 Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. - Columbia (Mo.) notched a split in the final day of its spring break trip in Alabama Saturday, defeating No. 24 University of Mobile (Ala.) 3-2 in the opener and falling 5-0 in the nightcap. The Cougars improve to 21-12 with the split.

With their 21st win this season, the 2010 Cougars have recorded the program's 1,000th victory. In the 27 years of the program, Columbia has racked up a 1,000 - 404 record under the direction of Chuck Bobbitt and current head coach Wendy Spratt. The program has made 14 NAIA National Championship appearances and has produced 21 All-Americans.

In the first game, the Rams opened up the scoring in the fourth inning with one run. Columbia answered in the fifth with two runs after Samantha Stringer singled and scored on a Valerie Teter home run. Mobile knotted the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth after stringing together two doubles. In their final at-bat the Cougars would deliver, scoring off of two hits, including a double by Stringer.

Teter (15-4) posted 10 strikeouts while giving up six hits and two walks. Stringer went 3-for-3 from the plate with two runs scored. Rachel Coleman chipped in two hits and one RBI.

The Cougars managed just three hits in the second contest as they fell 5-0. The Rams posted just five hits, but were able to capitalize on Cougar errors to score four runs in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Kacey Rehagen (6-8) took the loss for Columbia, giving up five hits and four earned runs, while fanning four Mobile batters.

The Cougars head back into American Midwest Conference play next week when they travel to Walnut Ridge, Ark., to take on Williams Baptist (Ark.) College on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
