BELLEVUE, Neb. - Bellevue University head softball coach Ed Lehotak will relinquish his coaching duties to concentrate his efforts solely as the school’s athletic director.

Lehotak, who was named Bellevue’s athletic director in January of this year, recently completed his 13th season as the Bruins’ softball mentor. During his tenure, the Bruins compiled a record of 471-222 (.680), won or shared the regular season and/or post-season conference tournament 12 times and qualified for the regional tournament 11 times. In addition, the Bruins also qualified for the NAIA national tournament on three occasions.

The 2009 Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, Lehotak led the Bruins to the regular season league title, finishing undefeated at 12-0 and 29-13 overall.

During his 13 seasons, Lehotak has coached 14 NAIA All-Americans, one honorable mention All-American and numerous Academic All-Americans.

The only softball coach in Bellevue history, Lehotak said that a search for his replacement will begin immediately.

The Bruins captured the 2008-09 MCAC Commissioner’s Cup, signifying the top athletic program in the conference.
