St. Gregory's Advances to Winner's Bracket Final with 7-5 Win

DECATUR, Ala. - St. Gregory's (Okla.) University posted their second straight win over a higher ranked team during bracket play in the 29th Annual NAIA Softball National Champion. The latest for No. 7 St. Gregory's was a 7-5 win over No. 3 Dickinson State (N.D.). Earlier in the day, St. Gregory's knocked off defending champion and No. 2 ranked Lubbock Christian (Texas).
St. Gregory's started strong with a five-run first inning. However, Dickinson State kept the game interesting with two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a homer by Jody Lantz. St. Gregory's padded the lead again with runs in the third and fourth innings to lead 7-2.
Dickinson State again rallied with a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth, including a homer from Kyrstin Gemar. However, the comeback fell short as St. Gregory's held on for the 7-5 win.
Sharon Bell (28-8) went 4.1 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits, before being lifted for a reliever. Sarah Bradley tossed the final 2.2 innings, allowing just one hit to earn the save.
Dailyn Dauman and Mel Dwight each recorded two RBI for St. Gregory's.
St. Gregory's advances to play California Baptist in the winner bracket finals. This set a match up of teams making their first appearance in the winner's bracket final. Dickinson State drops to the loser's bracket to play Notre Dame in an elimination game on Monday at 6:00 p.m.
