Mobile (Ala.) Advances to the Championship Game

May 20, 2008

DECATUR, Ala. - Mobile (Ala.) defeated Lubbock Christian (Texas), 2-0, in the winner's bracket after a three and half hour rain delay, to advance to the title game at the 2008 NAIA Softball National Championship.

Ginger Reeser pitched seven shutout innings while allowing just two hits, both coming before the rain delay, for the win.  Yaicey Sojo and Jennifer Gomez each scored a run for the Rams.

A pitcher duel between Reeser and LCU's Marissa Gonzalez was halted in the top of the fourth inning with two outs due to the rain.  But after the rain stopped, the Rams' offense woke up to record their first hit of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Sojo singled to lead off the inning, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Cristina Rodriguez's single to shallow right.  Gomez added an insurance run for Mobile with homerun to deep left in the sixth inning.

Reeser retired all 10 batters she faced in order after the delay for the win.

Gonzalez struck out five batters in the loss while Gabby Woody recorded both hits for Lady Chaps.

Mobile will play in the championship game at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21.

Lubbock Christian will drop to loser's bracket and will face the winner of California Baptist versus Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
