2008 NAIA Softball National Championship - Pool Play

DECATUR, Ala. - Sharon Bell pitched two no-hitters for St. Gregory's (Okla.) to help the Cavaliers post 2-0 record in Pool B on day one of the 2008 NAIA Softball National Championship pool play.  Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) also went 2-0 with two 4-0 wins.  William Carey (Miss.) split its two games while Dana (Neb.) and Warner Southern (Fla.) finished the day winless with 0-2 record.

 

Bell struck out 10 batters while walking two in a 4-0 win against Warner Southern and 15 batters in 1-0 victory against Dana.  SGU's Jessica Reed went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored against Warner Southern.

 

Point Loma Nazarene opened Pool B play with 4-0 win over Dana before knocking off William Carey, 4-0.  PLNU's Paige Powell hit two homeruns and drove in all four runs against Dana.  Tyler Lent pitched a complete game and struck out seven batters for the shutout.  Melissa Gomez picked up the victory against William Carey allowing just two hits while striking out seven.  She also drove in three runs.

 

After dropping the first game William Carey bounced back to defeat Warner Southern, 5-2.  Jeana Erickson batted 2-for-3 with three RBI while Shelly Berry scored two runs for the Lady Crusaders. 

 

Pool play will resume on Saturday with game No. 22 between Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) and St. Gregory's (Okla.) at 9:30 a.m. (CST).
