NAIA Extends Contract With Daktronics Through 2009-2010 Season

NAIA Extends Contract With Daktronics Through 2009-2010 Season

March 3, 2008

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) is proud to announce a contract extension with Daktronics through the 2009-2010 sports season. Daktronics is a company based out of Brookings, S.D. that owns DakStats, the official statistical software of the NAIA since 2001. The contract includes two separate documents, one for corporate sponsorships and one for national statistics. This extension will begin June 1, 2008.

"On behalf of the NAIA, I am pleased to extend these contracts because of the tremendous value Daktronics offers to the membership," said NAIA President and CEO Jim Carr. "Through the marketing and statistical partnerships, Daktronics has worked with the NAIA staff, made improvements and listened to the specific needs of our members. With these extensions, we look forward to building on the publicity we have garnered from working with Daktronics."

Included in the future contract are improvements in several areas including, but not limited to:

a.       Emergency Help Desk added during high-traffic times such as weekends and nights.

b.       Newsletter sent out quarterly by Daktronics providing information ranging from software updates to other communication pieces.

c.        Development of improved monitoring reports on schools missing stats - provide dates and contests that are missing in addition to trend reports.

d.       Live in-game scoring for soccer.

e.       New website.

"We have enjoyed working with the NAIA leadership and member schools to create one of the most in-depth stats sites on the Internet," said Jon Grann, Daktronics Software Manager. "Our relationship with the NAIA has provided constant opportunities to develop our DakStats family of products and services into the ideal stats solution for the NAIA. We're looking forward to taking it to the next level."

Daktronics provides a national statistical leader-board on the web for eight NAIA sports. In addition to up-to-date software for each sport, NAIA institutions receive full technical support, the ability to convert various statistical files, plus Web-cast and Web-sync modules. Daktronics has been a valued NAIA partner for seven years and continues to develop streamlined approaches - custom-made for NAIA members - to gain media exposure and showcase outstanding student-athletes.

"DakStats and Jon Grann have put a lot of time and energy into developing and implementing the NAIA national stats website," said NAIA-SIDA President Dave Parsons. "This new sponsorship agreement will allow this service to continue to grow and serve the needs of the organization even better in the next two years."

Numerous parties were involved in the decision to partner with DakStats and renew the contract through the 2009-2010 academic seasons. The alternatives were researched. Member schools and their athletic departments were consulted for perspective and feedback. The NAIA received suggestions from Sports Information Directors and Athletics Directors, utilized feedback from a message board created by Daktronics and helped create a statistical committee at the 2007 NAIA-SIDA Convention. The purpose of that statistical committee, which is comprised of SID's around the country, is to lend perspective on statistical software improvements and play an active role on the needs of NAIA schools.

In the terms of the agreement, member schools will continue to pay the same sport fee as recent years for each software sport package. This fee is a 50% discount to NAIA members only. Daktronics will continue to manage the Web-sync process and provide a national website detailed with NAIA statistics. This contract is totally exclusive from the NAIA marketing contract. There is no money exchanged between the NAIA and Daktronics in this contract.

The NAIA has done due diligence and researched the competitive market. At this point in time, there are no other companies to offer what DakStats does.

The purpose of having DakStats and a national statistical database is to provide the media and public with the most accurate and timely informational piece and most cost-effective way to publicize the NAIA on a national scale. The NAIA is committed to its member institutions and providing the most dependable and economically efficient method of national statistical keeping. The NAIA depends upon its members and their constant feedback to make the NAIA a success and uphold its core values.

DakStats is the premiere software for managing game, season and career statistics. DakStats software is used at all levels of play, from high school to professional, for tracking live game stats and compiling in-depth statistical reports.
