ST. GREGORY'S RALLIES IN THE BOTTOM OF THE SEVENTH
Lady Cavaliers Score Seven in the Seventh to Stay Alive

 

Decatur, Ala. - From the 2007 NAIA National Softball Championship at Wilson Morgan Park in Decatur, Alabama, St. Gregory's University (Okla.) (36-12) score seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to capture the 8-7 victory over Dickinson State University (N.D.) (32-8) to remain in the 2007 championship.

 

Heading into the bottom of the seventh inning with a six-run deficit, the Lady Cavaliers took advantage of six hits and two errors to take the 8-7 victory away from Dickinson State. Junior Brittany Richardson reached on an error to become the first base runner of the inning for St. Gregory's.  The Lady Cavaliers capitalized on four consecutive hits, an error, and two doubles to take the win including a game-winning double by freshman Laurel Bartholomew. Dojak led the St. Gregory offensive with a 4-for-4 day with one run scored and one RBI.  Sophomore Sharon Bell improved her pitching record to 36-11 on the season allowing one earned run and five strikeouts.

 

Freshmen Ashley Neufeld led the Blue Hawks with a 2-for-2 day with one run scored and one RBI.  First baseman Dana Dunsmore also added two hits in the contest (2-for-4). Senior Alyssa Baker suffers the loss for the Blue Hawks to drop her season record to 10-5.  Baker allowed three earned runs while striking out four batters.

 

St. Gregory's advances in the loser's bracket to play the Trevecca Nazarene University (Tenn.)/Houston Baptist University (Texas) game at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday.  Dickinson State ends their season and their run at a national title.
