Top Seed California Baptist University Defeats University of Mobile 6-1 at 2007 NAIA Softball National Championship
DECATUR, Ala. - California Baptist University remained undefeated in Pool A as they defeated the University of Mobile 6-1 Saturday (May 19) morning at the 2007 NAIA Softball National Championship being played at Wilson Morgan Park.
The top-seeded Lancers improved to 55-3 overall and to 3-0 within the pool while the 12th-ranked Rams fell to 36-16 and 1-2. Both teams conclude pool play later this afternoon. Mobile will take on Dickinson State University at 2 p.m. while California Baptist entertains the Savannah College of Art and Design at 4:30 p.m.
Mobile took a 1-0 lead on Yaicey Sojo's solo home run over the right-field fence in the top of the third inning. Sojo had two of the three hits the Rams had the entire game against Amy Thomas (26-2), who struck out 10. The Lancers leveled the game at 1 on a single by Shawna Rainwater, who went 2-for-3, an inning later.
CBU took the lead for good in the fifth inning as they scored three times. The Lancers took a 4-3 lead on Chantal Millard's RBI single to right field. Nikki Lowe drove in another run on a double for CBU before a fielder's choice by Cassandrah Carreon added the final run.
The Lancers added two runs in the sixth on Geanie Jenkins' single down the right-field line. Jenkins went 3-for-4 in the game while Erin Moore went 2-for-3.
