Dickinson State University advances in 2007 NAIA Softball National Championship with 2-1 victory over University of Virginia's College of Wise

                                                                                             

DECATUR, Ala. -Leah Glasgow's RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Dickinson State University a 2-1 victory over the University of Virginia's College at Wise in the final Pool A game of the 2007 NAIA Softball National Championship Saturday (May 19) evening at Wilson Morgan Park.

 

The 16th-ranked Blue Hawks improved to 32-6 overall and to 3-1 in pool play to earn the No. 2 seed from Pool A. DSU now advances to the double-elimination portion of the tournament that begins Monday (May 21).

 

Virginia-Wise took a 1-0 lead on an RBI triple down the right-field line by Shelley Newton in the third before Dickinson Stated tied the game at 1 an inning later on an unearned run.

 

Kristen Fleury started the bottom of the eight by reaching on a walk from Lauren Snead (15-11). Fleury moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Dana Dunsmore. Fluery scored on Glasgow's ground-rule double that bounced over the fence.

 

Alyssa Baker (10-4) earn the complete-game victory for the Blue Hawks.
