Oklahoma City University captures Pool B with 10-1 victory over Lee University at 2007 NAIA Softball National Championship

                                                                                             

DECATUR, Ala. - Oklahoma City University defeated Oklahoma City University 10-1 in five innings to capture Pool B at the 2007 NAIA Softball National Championship Saturday (May 19) afternoon at Wilson Morgan Park.

 

The No. 2 Stars improved to 49-6 and went 4-0 in Pool B to earn one of the eight berths to the double-elimination portion of the tournament which begins Monday (May 21). Lee slipped to 42-16 and to 0-3. The Flames will face Columbia (Mo.) College in a 7:30 p.m. contest later today.

 

The Stars wasted little time by scoring five times in the top of the first inning off Lee starter Sara Mitchell (5-3). Erin Slettvet and Amanda Howard had run-scoring singles before Mindy Crabaugh laced an RBI triple down the left-field line.

 

Lee got its run in the bottom of the first on RBI single by JaAndrea Hinton; however, the Stars scored four more times in the second to take a commanding 9-1 lead. Cat Calvert, who went 2-for-3, drove in one run with a single to right while Crabaugh, who went 2-for-3, drove in two more on a single to left-center field.  Laurin Hess closed out the scoring on RBI single to left-center field.

 

Dasha Shembereva (27-3) earned the win with four innings of work.
