Oklahoma City Shuts Out Columbia

Oklahoma City University shut outs Columbia (Mo.) College 10-0 at 2007 NAIA Softball National Championship

 

DECATUR, Ala. - Oklahoma City University scored five times in the first inning as the Stars defeated Columbia (Mo.) College 10-0 in five innings in pool-play action at the 2007 NAIA Softball National Championship Friday (May 18) afternoon at Wilson Morgan Park.

 

The second-ranked Stars improved to 47-6 overall and to 2-0 in Pool B while the Cougars fell to 28-18 and 0-2. Both teams resume action Saturday (May 19). Oklahoma City will face Simon Fraser University at 9:30 a.m. while Columbia faces Vanguard University at noon.

 

The Stars scored their first run on an infield single by Amanda Howard, who went 2-for-2 with 2 RBI. Mindy Crabaugh drew a bases-loaded walk before Laurin Hess drove in two runs with a single to center field.  Kasey Hobens added a RBI single down the right-field line to close out the scoring in the inning.

 

Oklahoma City scored in every inning but the fifth. Julie Harvey (13-1) picked up the win with three scoreless innings of relief. Meghan Bailey (10-7) absorbed the loss for the Cougars.
