California Baptist Defeats Dickinson State 5-0

California Baptist University takes 5-0 decision over Dickinson State University in 2007 NAIA Softball National Championship

DECATUR, Ala. - Pitcher Amy Thomas tossed a six-hitter as California Baptist University shut out Dickinson State University 5-0 in Pool A competition at the 2007 NAIA Softball National Championship Friday (May 18) afternoon at Wilson Morgan Park.

The top-ranked Lancers improved to 54-3 and to 2-0 in Pool A while the Blue Hawks fell to 29-6 and 0-1. California Baptist returns to action Saturday (May 19) when the host the University of Mobile in a 9 a.m. contest while Dickinson State will face the Savannah College of Art and Design in an 8 p.m. contest later today.

Thomas scattered six hits and struck out two for the Lancers as she improved her record to 25-2. Alyssa Baker took the loss and fell to 9-4.

California Baptist took command of the game with a four-run first inning off Baker. After Sara Goforth walked and Chantal Millard singled to lead off the inning, both runners came around to score when Courtney Blanleil's throw trying to get Goforth out at third as part of a double steal sailed into the outfield. The Lancers got their other runs in the first on Erin Moore's double to center field.
