Trevecca Nazarene University downs Bethel (Ind.) College 6-2 in Pool C at 2007 NAIA Softball National Championship

DECATUR, Ala. - Trevecca Nazarene University used a three-run fifth inning en route to a 6-2 victory over Bethel (Ind.) College in Pool C action at the 2007 NAIA Softball National Championship Friday (May 18) morning at Wilson Morgan Park.

The No. 5-ranked Trojans improved to 56-8 overall and to 1-0 in Pool C while 21st-ranked Pilots fell to 43-9 and 0-1. Trevecca Nazarene will next play Shorter College at 3 p.m. while Bethel will tangle with Houston Baptist University in a 5:30 p.m. contest.

Trevecca Nazarene jumped out to a 1-0 lead off Bethel starter Brittney Hire (23-5) in the first on Ashley McCool's RBI single. Bethel tied the game at 1 on Britny Beneker's homer to center field in the bottom half of the inning.

The Trojans reclaimed the lead with a run in the second on Chelsea Bailey's hit down the left-field line before they erupted for three runs on four hits in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead. Pitcher Brittiany Johnson (39-5) helped her own cause with a solo homer to right before Laura Redmon and Sammy Simon, who went 3-for-3, each added RBI singles.
