COLUMBIA - The Cougar Softball team swept the Stars from Stephens (Mo.) College today in a non-conference doubleheader. Columbia defeated Stephens 8-0 in five innings and 9-0 in five innings in their final outing of the regular season. Columbia improves to 22-14 with today's victories.

Katie McMahon (12-7) picked up the win in the first game, fanning eight Star batters. She gave up one hit and two walks. The Cougars scored a run in the second inning and seven in the fourth. Rachel Brawner, Katie McMahon and Amanda Hodges notched two hits a piece.

In the second game, Meghan Bailey (9-5) notched the shutout. She also gave up one hit and two walks, while totaling four strikeouts. Columbia scored five runs in the first, two in the second, a run in the third and one in the fourth to end the game in five innings. Eight different Cougars had one or more hit in the game, including Chris Schoonover, Rachel Brawner, Marcie McMahon and Jena Strobel who each posted two hits.

The Cougars enter postseason play this week when they travel to Springfield, Ill. to compete in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) tournament. The tournament starts on Thursday, April 26 and continues on thru Saturday, April 28. Game times and opponents have not yet been released.
