Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) Swipes Spot in Record Book

Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) Swipes Spot in Record Book

April 12, 2007

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A year after destroying the school record for home runs, the Trevecca softball team has equally pummeled the team stolen base record. The team has combined to steal 127 bases in 146 attempts for a success rate of 87 percent this season.

Sidney Crews and Chelsea Bailey share the individual season record with 30 stolen bases this season. Crews broke the old record of 25 stolen bases by Jami Toomey and now she is joined by Bailey at 30 stolen bases on the season. Bailey, a sophomore, and senior Maria Trapani are closing in on Jami Toomey's individual career stolen base record of 58 (72 attempts). Bailey is 51 for 61 in her career and Trapani is 45 of 55 in her career. Crews has stolen 33 bases in 37 attempts in her career.

With a minimum of 18 games remaining the team has a chance to really put the record well ahead of the old record and at least challenge if not catch the NAIA record of 226 stolen bases. The 1994 Culver-Stockton (Mo.) team holds the record. The Trojans currently are fourth all-time in NAIA history. Texas Wesleyan is third on the NAIA list with 136 stolen bases in 2006 and Columbia College (Mo.) had 179 stolen bases in 1996.

The previous Trevecca record was 111 stolen bases (144 attempts) in the 2005 season. The 2006 team had 104 stolen bases (127 attempts) and the 1995 team had 73 stolen bases in 93 attempts.
