Oct. 3, 2006
Dustin Combs, a six-year veteran softball coach from Glendale High School in Springfield, Mo., has been named to coach the William Jewell College (Mo.) softball program.
At Glendale, Combs helped start the softball program, and the team reached the state quarterfinal game in just its second season. Combs is the only coach to reach 100 wins in the city of Springfield. Prior to coaching softball, he served as the assistant baseball coach at Glendale High School. He also served as the head grounds keeper, receiving national recognition from the National High School Baseball Coaches Association as "Grounds Keeper of the Year" in 2004.
"I'm a little overwhelmed and excited for the opportunity," said Combs. "This is a college with high expectations and I am ready for this challenge. I know the girls are eager to get to work, and I am looking forward to working with them."
A native of Commerce, Okla., Combs earned his associate degree in secondary education from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami, Okla., in 1995. He received his B.S. in education from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla., in 1998. Combs went on to earn his master of education studies in secondary administration from William Woods University in Fulton, Mo., in August of 2006.
