ODU's Schneider in "Faces in the Crowd"

Gina Schneider, a senior third baseman at Ohio Dominican University, is the lone collegiate athlete featured in the July 31 issue of Sports Illustrated.

Schnheider led the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) with 88 hits and was tied for the lead in home runs with 19. She set 10 Panthers single-season records and was named the American Mideast Conference South and NAIA Region IX player of the year.

The infielder was selected to the NAIA First Team All-America team in May after finishing the season in the top five in the NAIA for batting average and slugging percentage.

"Gina provided this team with some much-needed offensive leadership," Panther head coach Marcella Vanlandingham stated. "She stepped up when we needed her to, on and off the field. The impact she made on so many games this season was no less than amazing. She is a very special player, one I'm proud to have in this program."
