Concordia Gets Win

DECATUR, Ala. - At the 2006 NAIA Softball National Championship at Wilson Morgan Park in Decatur, Alabama, Concordia University (Calif.) (45-17) defeated Lee University (Tenn.) (55-13) 6-2 in winner's bracket play during the third day of competition of the tournament.
In the top of the second inning of play, Jamie Van Dijk hit a homerun to score the game's first run. By the end of the fourth inning, Concordia was on top 5-0 as a result of a double by Ashley Evans, a single by Van Dijk and several mistakes by the Lady Flames defense. Concordia clinched the win in the sixth inning when Caitlyn Senkbeil's single drove in Brittany Christianson, who was pinch running for Natalie Brown.
The Lady Flames attempted a comeback in the bottom of the sixth inning with a single by Danielle Everett followed a two-run homerun by Jill Webb. April Richards and Jennifer Pendergraft each had a single for Lee in the bottom of the seventh but failed to score.
Natalie Brown of the Concordia Eagles recorded the win making her 25-10 on the year while Ashley Lindsay of the Lady Flames took the loss dropping her record to 16-5 on the season.
The Concordia Eagles will be in action again today at 4:30 p.m. against Point Loma Nazarene University (Calif.) (45-15) and Lee's Lady Flames will be matched up again today at 4:30 p.m. versus Trevecca Nazarene University (Tenn.) (46-14).
