Point Loma Shuts Out Concordia

DEACUTR, Ala. - At the 2006 NAIA Softball National Championship at Wilson Morgan Park in Decatur, Alabama, Point Loma Nazarene University (Calif.) (46-15) kept Concordia University (Calif.) (45-16) from scoring in the winner's bracket of day three of the tournament and gained 6-0 victory.

Taking a one-run lead into the seventh inning of play, Point Loma's Amanda Addie hit a two-out infield single to advance the base runners.  Mackenzie Gerke followed with a double to deep left field scoring three runs.  Shortstop Amy Nanson singled in Gerke and Ruth Atkins doubled to score the final run of the inning and of the game.  Nanson led the Sea Lions with a 3-for-4 day with two runs scored and one RBI.  Katie McColeman improved her record to 21-2 on the season pitching five complete innings with three strikeouts.  K.C. Robertson pitched two innings of relief to combine for the victory.  The Sea Lions earned the most hits of any teams of the day with nine including three extra base hits.

Concordia struggled offensively with only one hit coming from Ashley Evans in the bottom of the third inning when she singled to left center field.

Point Loma advances to play at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the winner's bracket for a rematch with the University of Mobile (Ala.) (48-2) who beat them in pool play on Saturday 1-0 in 11 innings. 

Concordia drops to the loser's bracket and will face Simon Fraser University (B.C.) (32-5) at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
