First Day of Pool Play Complete at Softball

May 19, 2006

DECATUR, Ala. - The opening day of pool play at the 2006 NAIA Softball National Championship ended with top-seeded teams in control in three of the four pools.   The tournament, being staged at Wilson Morgan Park, will continue with pool play of Saturday.  The top two teams from each pool will advance to a double-elimination bracket that begins on Monday, May 22.

Defending national champion Simon Fraser University (B.C.) found itself in unfamiliar teritory after losing its second game of the tournament against Trevecca Nazarene University (Tenn.) in Pool D.  Fifth-seeded St. Gregory's University (Okla.) also suffered a loss on opening day to Bethel College (Tenn.) in the same pool.
