2025 NAIA Men's Wrestling National Championship Recap - Day 2
PARK CITY, Kan. – The stage is set for Championship Saturday at the 2025 NAIA Men’s Wrestling National Championship inside Park City Arena in Park City, Kan. Following two intense days of competition, ten individuals will vie for national titles across ten weight classes, while the battle for team supremacy remains a focal point.
Grand View University continues to showcase its dominance on the national stage, securing six of the ten spots in Saturday’s championship bouts. The Vikings are in a prime position to claim yet another team title, holding a commanding lead in the team standings.
Among the notable storylines heading into the finals is Life University’s (Ga.) Khalil Abdushshakur, a 31-year-old wrestler who returned to the sport after a 7 ½-year absence. Additionally, Central Methodist (Mo.) will have two wrestlers competing in the finals for the first time in program history, with Austin Foye and Donald Griffin looking to etch their names into the program’s record books.

125 Pounds
#1 Aden Reeves (Grand View) vs. #3 Gabe Gonzales (Grand View)
A battle between teammates will determine the champion at 125 pounds. Reeves advanced with a commanding 10-2 major decision, while Gonzales punched his ticket with an 11-1 major decision.
133 Pounds
#1 Dominic Chavez (Texas Wesleyan) vs. #2 Thaddeus Long (Life University)
Top-seeded Chavez powered through the bracket, scoring an 18-9 major decision in the semifinals, while Long secured his finals berth with a 17-3 major decision.
141 Pounds
#1 Carson Taylor (Grand View) vs. #3 Evan Potter (Southern Oregon)
Carson Taylor looks to extend Grand View’s dominance, entering the finals with an 18-6 major decision in the semifinals. Evan Potter edged his way into the finals with a tight 6-4 decision.

#8 Elijah Larsen (Grand View) vs. #11 Hagen Heistand (Concordia)
In one of the biggest surprises of the tournament, both finalists come in as lower seeds, with #8 Larsen and #11 Heistand advancing past multiple higher-ranked opponents. Larsen eked out a 2-1 decision to reach the finals, while Heistand won a tight 4-3 match in the semifinals.

Griffin’s championship appearance marks the first finalist in program history for Central Methodist.

Reynolds cruised into the finals with a 13-4 major decision, while Ketchum battled to a narrow 8-7 decision.

#1 JD Perez (Life) vs. #3 Tyson Beauperthuy (Doane)
Perez remains undefeated on the season as he enters the championship match, following a 7-4 semifinal victory. Beauperthuy dominated his opponent in the semifinals with a 17-4 major decision.

#1 Garavous Kouekabakilaho (Grand View) vs. Khalil Abdushshakur (Life)
Kouekabakilaho advances after a commanding 16-2 semifinal win. Meanwhile, Abdushshakur’s incredible comeback story continues after grinding out a 3-2 decision in the semifinals.

#1 Gage Braun (Southeastern University) vs. #11 Austin Foye (Central Methodist)
Braun dominated his semifinal with an 8-0 major decision. Foye battled to a 4-1 sudden victory in his semifinal match.
Consolation Matches to Watch
Several wrestlers will battle for third place through the consolation bracket. Notably, unseeded wrestlers have emerged as contenders in the wrestlebacks, including multiple unranked competitors who have fought their way into the top eight.
