Day 1 - 2021 NAIA Men’s Outdoor Track Field Championship

GULF SHORES, Ala. – [RESULTS] The first day of the 2021 NAIA Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship finished with the first three champions crowned, six preliminary events and part of the decathlon events at the Mickey Miller Blackwell Complex in Gulf Shores, Ala.
- Day one featured six preliminary events in the 4x100m relay, 1500m, 400m hurdles, 200m, 4x800m relay and 3,000m steeplechase.
- The first three champions of the event were crowned in the hammer throw, javelin and 10,000m run.
- Jacob Cornelio of Concordia (Neb.) won the hammer throw with a mark of 66.76. Cornelio’s win gave the Bulldogs three titles in the event in the last five years.
- Leon Menten won the first javelin title for Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) with a mark of 66.38.
- Tony Floyd of Madonna (Mich.) captured the first-place finish in the 10,000m. This is the first time that Madonna (Mich.) has won a title in the 10,000m.
- Cadin Gustafson of Friends (Kan.) holds the lead spot in the decathlon after day one after accumulating 3650 points. Gustafson recorded four finished in the top three with a first-place finish in the long jump (6.79), a second-place finish in the shot put (12.21) and two third-place finishes in the 100m (11.27) and the 400m (50.40).
- Lee Walburn of College of Idaho follows Gustafson with 2603 points in the decathlon. Walburn also notched a first-place finish of his own in the 100m (11.21).
- Senzo Sokhela of Westmont (Calif.) won the 1500m prelim with a time of 3:55.33. Westmont has only claimed two titles in the event with the previous title being won in 1970.
- Oregon Tech leads after day one with a fifth-place finish in the 10,000m and a second-place finish in the javelin.
- Lewis-Clark State (Idaho), Concordia (Neb.) and Madonna (Mich.) are tied for second as each posted one first-place finish.

The second day of the 2021 NAIA Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship will take place on Thursday, May 25. The day will open with the decathlon events at 10 a.m. central.
Eight events will be in competition for their individual title.
