Men's Tennis - Georgia Gwinnett College

2020 NAIA Men’s Tennis Coaches’ Top 25 Poll – Poll 1 (February 12, 2020)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Georgia Gwinnett continued its streak at the top in the first regular season Top 25 of the year. The Grizzlies, whom have six national titles to their credit in the last six seasons, begin the year in the drivers’ seat. Xavier (La.) stayed on their heels at No. 2 while the top 13 remained the same from the preseason edition

Top 25 Highlights (historical information dates back to 2000)

  • Georgia Gwinnett has been ranked No. 1 in the last 47-straight polls.
  • Hope International (Calif.) and Northwestern Ohio both made the largest jump with a two-spot position increase.
  • After capturing the Crossroads League title, Indiana Wesleyan has the best record in the poll at 18-1. The Wildcats suffered their first loss of the season against Grand Valley State (Mich.) on Friday, Feb. 7.
  • There are no newcomers to the poll this week.
  • The top five teams are a combined 7-0 on the year. No. 4 William Carey (Miss.) and No. 5 Reinhardt (Ga.) are the lone teams among that group which have not kicked-off their seasons yet. The Crusaders will begin play with a top five team as they will play host to No. 2 Xavier (La.) on Monday, Feb. 24.
  • No. 7 Xavier (La.) extends the longest consecutively-active streak in the poll with 105 straight appearances.

Poll Methodology:

  • The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, Association of Independent Institutions and Unaffiliated Groups.
  • The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best teams. A team receives 30 points for each first-place vote, 29 for second place and so on through the list.
  • The highest and lowest ranking for each team (a non-rating is considered a low rating) is removed and the team’s ranking will be recalculated with an additional point added to each team for every ballot (including discounted ballots) that the teams appear on.
  • Teams that receive only one point in the ballot are not considered “receiving votes”
  • The frequency of polls occurs bi-weekly. This policy was approved by the National Administrative Council (NAC) for the 2017-18 academic season. This change will allow raters the opportunity to consider a larger body of work in between rating periods.
