2019 NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship Opening Round presented by Select Soccer - Day One
Kansas City, Mo. -- [FULL SCHEDULE] Fifteen teams advance to day two of the 2019 NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship Opening Round. The winners of Saturday's matchups will advance to join the host institution at OC Great Park Soccer Stadium in Irvine, Calif.
The 15 NAIA Opening Round Site Championships presented by Select Soccer winners will join Westmont (Calif.) in Irvine for NAIA National Championship Final Site play, beginning on December 2nd. The 16-team single-elimination event runs from Dec. 2 - 7 at the Orange Country Great Park Soccer Stadium.
The NAIA Network – the association's official video-streaming home – will broadcast all matches live at the 2019 NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship final site in Irvine, Calif. The video platform, powered by Stretch Internet, allows users access to live video, statistics and social interaction on a number of devices, including mobile. Day One Highlights
- Four of the 15 games were decided in overtime or penalty kicks. Including Keiser (Fla.), Life (Ga.), Huntington (Ind.) and John Brown (Ark.)
- Keiser (Fla.) won 3-2 in the second overtime with a goal kicked by Adrian Camacho Castro.
- Life (Ga.) advances to the championship match of opening rounds in the Lawrenceville bracket by winning a penalty kick shootout 5-3 against Union (Ky.).
- Indiana Tech defeats Vanguard (Calif.) 2-0 to face the No. 4 overall Mobile (Ala.) on Saturday. After winning Wolverine-Hooiser Athletic Conference regular season the Warriors have ended a 10-year drought returning to the national championship for the first time since 2009.
- Baker (Kan.) defeats Eastern Oregon 2-0 they will face Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday at 6 PM. Tennessee Wesleyan is looking for their first win the championship series.
- UC Merced defeated Menlo in overtime 1-0 earning their first ever win in the national championship. Andres Lua shot the final goal in overtime earning the win.
- Southeastern (11-5-4) overcame a three-goal deficit to force the shootout in a match that ultimately ended in a 3-3 tie. John Brown was perfect in the shootout to advance to Saturday's match with No. 5-seeded Lindsey Wilson (Ky.).
- Of the six teams to make their first NAIA National Championship two advance to championship play on Saturday. William Penn (Iowa) and St. Thomas (Fla.) will play tomorrow for a chance to make the trip to Irvine, Calif.
- Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) returns to the national championship for the third time the last being in 2013. The Eagles defeated Dalton State 2-1 earning their first win in program history at the national championship. Embry-Riddle will face the No. 2 overall seed Columbia (Mo.).
