Recap of Day 2 NAIA Men's Bowling Championship

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – [BRACKET | SCHEDULE | LIVE STREAM] The 2022 NAIA Men’s Bowling Championship continued on Saturday at Five Star Lanes with match play in a best-of-five baker games format.

 

Highlights

  • In the first round, all four higher seeds advanced as No. 5 Tennessee Southern, No. 6 Pikeville (Ky.), No. 7 Indiana Tech and No. 8 Marian (Ind.) moved on to square off with their respective top-four seeded foes. Pikeville (Ky.) was the only team to sweep their opponent in the first round. The remaining three games in the first round all went to a fifth tie-breaking set. 
  • Round two saw one upset as No. 7 Indiana Tech defeated No. 2 St. Xavier (Ill.). Top-seeded Cumberlands (Ky.), No. 3 Saint Francis (Ill.) and No. 4 SCAD Savannah (Ga.) held serve and advanced to Round 4 of the winner’s bracket. Only SCAD Savannah swept their opponent in the round and the other three games went to a fifth set. 
  • Round four in the winner's bracket saw SCAD Savannah upset 1-seeded Cumberlands in three games. No. 3 St. Francis (Ill.) also took care of business with a win in straight sets over Indiana Tech.
  • St. Francis kept its momentum going into round five and swept its second consecutive opponent in SCAD Savannah to put itself in the driver’s seat as the defending national champions will have two cracks at repeating tomorrow.
  • In the elimination bracket, three of the four lower seeds, No. 9 Tennessee Wesleyan, No. 10 William Penn (Iowa) and No. 11 Midland (Neb.) got through the first elimination. 
  • Round four in the elimination bracket saw William Penn with a comeback win after dropping the first two sets to Midland. Tennessee Wesleyan opened their game by being down in the first set but turned things around to close the game out in four over Pikeville. 
  • After getting knocked to the elimination bracket, Indiana Tech and Cumberlands battled their way to the next round and will face each other on Saturday morning. The winner will have a chance to compete again SCAD Savannah for a spot in the championship. 

Day three starts at 8:30 am ET/7:30 am CT on Sunday with the men’s championship set for 12 pm.
