2021-22 NAIA Men’s Basketball All-America Teams Announced
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After crowning the 84th NAIA Men’s Basketball National Champion on Tuesday, the NAIA announced its selections of the 2021-22 NAIA Men’s Basketball All-America Teams. Zach Wrightsil of Loyola (La.) was named the NAIA National Player of the Year after helping guide the Wolf Pack to their second NAIA Men’s Basketball National Championship in team history. Loyola head coach Stacy Hollowell was named the NAIA National Coach of the Year after leading his team to a red banner and a 37-1 record.
Three teams of 10 players each comprised the three teams, along with the 47 player honorable mention list. Carroll (Mont.), Loyola, LSU Shreveport (La.) and William Penn (Iowa) led the group with two selections each. Georgetown (Ky.) was the lone team with multiple honorable mentions with two.
Wrightsil has consistently risen up the ranks as an honorable mention to the All-America selections to a second-team selection last year. The senior from Prosper, Texas averaged 18.7 points per game for the 2022 National Champions and shot 62 percent from the floor throughout the course of the season.
As a whole, seven players moved from being named an honorable mention a season ago to one of the three NAIA All-America teams in 2022. Of that group, Seth Maxwell of Indiana Wesleyan was the lone player to move from honorable mention in 2021 to first team in 2022. Three players returned to the first team after having been named to it a season ago (Jaylon Scott, Bethel (Kan.), Mason Walters, Jamestown (N.D.), Kevion Blaylock, William Penn (Iowa))
Coach Stacy Hollowell was named the NAIA Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year following the national title game on Tuesday night. Hollowell led the Loyola Wolf Pack to the second red banner in team history in just his eighth season at the helm. The Wolf Pack were ranked No. 1 heading into the 2022 National Championship and finished 37-1 on the year.
