2020 NAIA Football Game of the Week No. 5
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced that the NAIA Football Game of the Week for October 31 will be Dickinson State (N.D.) at Valley City State (N.D.). The game was selected by fans across the country in an online vote.
In one of the most anticipated rematches of the year in the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA), Dickinson State will try to go 8-0 on the season as it travels to Valley City State. The two teams met first this season back on September 26 as the Blue Hawks handed the Vikings their first and only loss on the year.
In the first meeting, Dickinson State looked to junior quarterback Drew Boedecker to lead the offense. The native of Sheridan, Wyo., did not disappoint and recorded four passing touchdowns in the game. Boedecker is ranked in the top 10 in the nation in multiple offensive categories and will again be a key to success for the Blue Hawks. The signal-caller is ranked No. 3 in total passing yards with 1,642 and No. 3 in total offense with 1,764. Wide receiver Jaret Lee also ranks No. 3 in the nation in both total receptions (41), and total receiving yards (642).
Valley City State has won its last two games heading into Saturday afternoon’s game after a narrow defeat of Waldorf (Iowa), 25-21 and currently sits in second place in the conference standings, just behind Dickinson State.
While the Vikings have displayed a solid offense, it will be the defense that may take center stage against the high-powered Blue Hawks offense. Sal Avila is ranked No. 5 in the nation in tackles per game with 10.8. The junior linebacker is a dual-sport athlete (baseball and football) that gets to the football and makes plays. Defensive lineman Marshaun Jones will also become a key to the outcome. The senior is ranked No. 11 in the NAIA in total sacks with four on the year.
