2020 NAIA Football Game of the Week No. 2
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced that the NAIA Football Game of the Week for October 10 will be McPherson (Kan.) at Southwestern (Kan.). The game was selected by fans across the country in an online vote.
In a conference clash, Southwestern will look to move to 2-0 on the year on Saturday night as the Moundbuilders are one of four teams in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) that have not suffered a loss on the season. McPherson, on the other hand, boasts the second most wins amongst conference teams this season with a 3-1 record. Bethel (Kan.) leads the standings with an unblemished 4-0 record.
With just a single game under its belt, Southwestern is ready to get back to play after having to postpone its game last Saturday against Bethel (Kan.). Quarterback Brad Cagle will help lead the offense after a 249 yard performance in the season opener against Tabor (Kan.) back on September 12. A strong ground game will assist Cagle in the offense, and running back Keyshawn Wyatt has shown he can definitely move the chains. The senior out of Dallas, Texas rushed for 125 yards and a score in the first game this season.
As Southwestern looks to get back into the swing of things, McPherson looks to be in good position already in the KCAC. Entering play 3-1 on the year, a win on Saturday will help the Bulldogs keep pace with Bethel and the always dangerous Kansas Wesleyan (2-0 entering the week). Its only loss was to Bethel on September 19, but has rattled off consecutive wins over Tabor and Friends in the last two weeks.
Special teams may be a bright spot for McPherson on Saturday. The Bulldogs are ranked No. 2 in the nation in average punt return yards per attempt (23.3), and No. 4 in average kickoff return yards per attempt (26.4). Additionally, the team ranks No. 5 in the country in total pass offense (874 yards) and No. 7 in total scoring offense (120).
