2021 NAIA Competitive Dance National Championship Recap - Day One

Davenport, IA. – Preliminaries were full of energy and excitement. All teams were thrilled to be on the big stage after COVID-19 cancelled the 2020 national championship prior to competition. St. Ambrose (Iowa) finds themselves in a familiar spot after day one of competition. The Fighting Bees lead the team score with 89.17 points in the 2021 NAIA Competitive Dance National Championship in the lead.  

 

  • Seven of the eight qualifying teams are four-year qualifiers at the national championship
  • Of the three completed championships both red banner winners are present in Davenport this year. Midland (Neb.) has won two (2017, 2019) and St. Ambrose (Iowa) (2018)
  • St. Ambrose won the championship in 2018 and was runner-up in 2019. They qualified for the 2020 championship as well, but it was canceled due to COVID-19
  • Oklahoma City is also a four-year qualifier, scoring 83.1 points earning second place.
  • Oklahoma City wowed the judges to finish the prelims with a score of 83.10, placing them in second heading into the finals
  • The Stars are looking for revenge after earning runner-up at the 2018 NAIA Competitive Dance National Championship
  • Morningside (Iowa) is currently in third in team standings
  • The Mustangs have competed consecutively the past years placing one spot better each year. Starting in 2017 taking 6th, 2018 – 5th, 2019-4th
  • Two-time national champion, the Warriors of Midland (Neb.) currently stand in fourth place with 77.87
  • Of the four years, Aquinas has qualified they have earned both third and second and are looking for first. They have 65.33 team points
  • Oklahoma City wowed the judges to finish the prelims with a score of 83.10, placing them in second heading into the finals.
