Kansas City, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that Lawrence Tech (Mich.) has won the bid to become the host for the NAIA Men’s and Women’s Bowling National Championships beginning in 2020 on Monday. The agreement, which spans the 2020 and 2021 seasons, will combine the efforts of both the institution and the Detroit Sports Commission.

“Lawrence Technological University is honored to be chosen as the host University for the NAIA National Bowling Championships,” said Scott Trudeau, Lawrence Tech Director of Athletics. “Lawrence Tech will be partnering with the Detroit Sports Commission and the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) to make this a great experience for our student-athletes, coaches and spectators. Our staff is eager and excited to take on this four-day event and highlight our university and our conference for the next two years.”

The championship will take place at Five Star Lanes in Sterling Heights, Mich., the same that the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference utilizes to host its conference tournament.

"The Detroit Sports Commission is thrilled for the Motor City to be chosen as the host destination for the 2020 and 2021 NAIA Men's and Women's Bowling National Championships,” said Dave Beachnau, Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Sports, Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau, which oversees the DSC. “Being awarded the national championships is a first for the region, but certainly adds to our long, storied history of welcoming high profile amateur and youth bowling events. In collaboration with Lawrence Tech and the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference, we can’t wait to deliver an unparalleled experience for the student-athletes, coaches and fans, while showcasing Detroit as a world class city and sports destination."

The NAIA Men’s and Women’s Bowling National Championships features 24 teams in the three-day, team event. Both genders compete in a 12-team, double-elimination bracket culminating with the crowning of the national champions on the final day.

“The host partnership between the Detroit Sports Commission and Lawrence Technological University will put the inaugural NAIA 2020 Bowling National Championships in a great position to thrive going forward,” said Jim Carr, NAIA President and CEO. “We have no doubt it will be a top-notch event for student-athletes, coaches, and fans.”
