NAIA Announces Five-Year Contract Extension with President & CEO Jim Carr
KANSAS CITY, MO – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced today that it has come to an agreement with President and Chief Executive Officer Jim Carr to extend the term of his employment through 2025.
“The NAIA Council of Presidents Executive Committee is pleased that Jim has agreed to extend his employment contract for five more years,” said Dr. Arvid Johnson, Council of Presidents Chair and University of St. Francis President. “These are challenging times for collegiate athletics and we are fortunate to have Jim at the helm as we move forward with strategies that position the NAIA for continued success.”
Since Carr took over as CEO in 2006, the NAIA has stabilized its membership numbers and increased total revenue by 160 percent. During his tenure, the association has established an eligibility center that processes 35,000 eligibility decisions annually and created the Champions of Character® Foundation, which educates young adults and children about five core values – integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership. The organization has also grown from 25 to 55 full-time employees.
“The landscape of collegiate athletics is shifting rapidly and the NAIA is poised to adapt and execute change that will continue to prioritize the student-athlete experience,” said Carr. “The NAIA currently has several groundbreaking initiatives underway and I’m excited that I’ll be able to see them through to completion.”
Carr joined the NAIA in July 1998 as managing director and general counsel and was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in 2000. Prior to joining the NAIA, he practiced law with the firm of Maynard, Cooper and Gale, P.C. in Birmingham, AL and served as director of licensing for athletics at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
