NAIA and Conference Commissioners Announce Partnership
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and its Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) announced a partnership between the CCA Respect, Inclusivity, Support, and Education (RISE) initiative and the Minorities Opportunities in Athletics Association (MOAA) in offering two (2) Lunch-n-Learn programs specifically focused on career opportunities in the NAIA.
The first session, scheduled for November 18, 2020, will target younger individuals in the industry (0-3 years), a current graduate assistant or intern, or a soon-to-be graduating senior who want to know more about what opportunities NAIA schools and conferences offer, and what important next steps to take in their career paths. While the programming is open to everyone, women and minorities are especially encouraged to take part.
The MOAA is an affiliate under the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) umbrella of which's mission is to provide opportunities to exchange ideas, advocate for increased participation and administrative opportunities for minorities in athletics. MOAA also promotes generating a sports culture that supports the values necessary to teach and learn respect for self and others.
"As a member of the MOAA Board, I am thrilled to have the support of the CCA as we look to enhance the diversity efforts of the NAIA," Dr. Kiki Baker Barnes, Director of Athletics at Dillard University stated. "These lunch and learn programs provide a valuable opportunity for young professionals who are looking to start or advance their careers. Thanks to our MOAA Board Chair, Dr. China Jude for ensuring the NAIA had representation on the MOAA board and to my colleague, Commissioner Robert Cashell for his leadership with the CCA Rise program."
CCA RISE was developed earlier in the fall of 2020 with the specific mission providing an avenue for NAIA membership to participate in training and programming aimed at influencing positive change in the association where all people are valued and provided equal opportunity in all aspects of life.
"The ability to launch the CCA Rise initiative in a partnership with MOAA is so exciting," mentioned CCA Chair and Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Commissioner Robert Cashell." The MOAA is seen as the gold standard in their work with diversity and inclusion."
