Day Two of the 2023 NAIA Women’s Volleyball Championship Pool Play

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – [BRACKET | SCHEDULE] Day two of the 2023 NAIA Women’s Volleyball pool play concluded with the middle seeds in each of the eight pools winning their respective matches while a record was tied and the 700th match in Sioux City was played. 

Day 2 Highlights

  • Four matches were won in three sets.
  • Three matches were won in four sets.
  • Much like day one, there was a five-set match on day two between Bellevue (Neb.) and St. Ambrose (Iowa).
  • During the one o'clock session, the 700th match was played in the Tyson Events Center since the tournament was moved to Sioux City, Iowa, in 2008.
  • IU Kokomo (Ind.) won its second pool play match in tournament history today with the win over Oklahoma Wesleyan.
  • IUK extended its season win streak to 29 wins.
  • Bellevue and Montana Tech won their respective pool play matches for their 10th pool play win in tournament history.
  • Midland (Neb.) has now surpassed 30 tournament wins after winning its opening round and pool play match in 2023 with a tournament record of 31-15.
  • Southern Oregon now boasts 17 tournament pool play wins after opening pool play in 2023 with a win over CIU (S.C.)
  • CIU (S.C.) and Southern Oregon tied for the highest tournament set score since the beginning of the new scoring era. The last time a set went 33-31 was when former member Biola (Calif.) and Madonna (Mich.) scored 33-31 in pool play during the 2014 championship.
  • Vanguard (Calif.) notched its eighth pool play win after defeating Saint Katherine (Calif.). Six of those wins came in four sets, much like today’s match.
  • Jamestown won their match against St. Thomas (Fla.) and Pool G in a potential tie-break situation pending what happens in Friday’s match featuring Corban (Ore.) and Jamestown (N.D.). For more information on tie-break scenarios, CLICK HERE
  • Columbia (Mo.) furthers its lead as the winningest tournament team that now boasts 102 tournament wins after the Cougars won their opening round match and today’s pool play win over Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio).
  • The bottom seeds in pools A, B, C, D, E, F, and H have all been eliminated after the first two days of pool play.
  • Tournament Individual Stat Leaders
    • Jazlin De Haan of Northwestern leads the tournament in kills per set (6.33).
    • Martina McGrath of Viterbo (Wis.) leads the tournament in hitting percentage (0.611).
    • Marissa Mullins of Indiana Wesleyan leads the tournament in blocks per set (2.67).
    • Alysen Dexter of Northwestern leads the tournament in service aces per set (1.33).
    • Sydney Collins of Oklahoma Wesleyan leads the tournament in assists per set (12.67).
  • Tournament Team Stat Leaders
    • Bellevue (Neb.) leads the tournament in attack percentage (0.348).
    • Viterbo leads the tournament in kills per set (17).
    • Viterbo leads the tournament in assists per set (16).
    • Valley City State (N.D.) leads the tournament in digs (85).
    • St. Thomas (Fla.) leads the tournament in digs per set (23.33)
    • CIU (S.C.), Montana Tech and St. Ambrose (Iowa) lead the tournament in solo blocks (5).
    • St. Ambrose and College of Saint Mary (Neb.) lead the tournament in block assists (26).
    • St. Ambrose leads the tournament in total blocks (18).
    • Northwestern leads the tournament in blocks per set (4).
