Day 1 - 2021 NAIA Women’s Outdoor Track Field Championship

GULF SHORES, Ala. – [RESULTS] The first day of the 2021 NAIA Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship finished with one record broke, the first four champions crowned, six preliminary events and part of the heptathlon events at the Mickey Miller Blackwell Complex in Gulf Shores, Ala.

  • Day one featured six preliminary events in the 4x100m relay, 1500m, 400m hurdles, 200m, 4x800m relay and 3,000m steeplechase.
  • The first three champions of the event were crowned in the hammer throw, javelin, pole vault and 10,000m run.
  • Brittany Bodnar of St. Francis (Ill.) recorded the longest mark since 2013 in the hammer throw with a mark of 57.38.
  • Elizabeth Stottlemyre was the second person from Concordia (Neb.) to win the javelin. Sottlemyre finished with a mark of 50.95 (167-2).
  • Josie Puelz won the second pole vault title for Concordia (Neb.) with a mark of 4.05 (13-3 ½). The last Bulldog to win the pole vault was in 2003. Puelz recorded the second-highest pole vault mark in NAIA history.
  • Emily Kearney of Milligan (Tenn.) set a new meet record in the 10,000m with a time of 34:07.91.
  • Bria Sands of Life (Ga.) won the long jump with a mark of 6.16 (20-2 ½). This is the second title for Life in the long jump.
  • Morgan Luedy of Cornerstone (Mich.) leads the heptathlon with a score of 3032 through four events. Luedy captured one first-place finish in the 200m (24.76) and included a couple of third-place finishes in the 100m hurdles (14.73) and high jump (1.61).
  • Amy Richert of Concordia (Neb.) follows Luedy in the heptathlon with a score of 2894 and also recorded a first-place finish in the high jump (1.64).
  • Aniekeme Etim of William Carey as the defending national champion in the 200m finished the prelims in first with a time of 23.55.
  • Concordia (Neb.) leads after day 1 with points coming from the first-place finish in the pole vault and javelin as well as a third-place finish in the hammer throw.
  • Indiana Tech & St. Francis (Ill.) followed with a first-place finish in the long jump and hammer throw respectively.

Up Next

The second day of the 2021 NAIA Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship will take place on Thursday, May 25. The day will open with the heptathlon events at 10 a.m. central.

Three events will be in competition for their individual title.
