Preview of the 2023 NAIA Women’s Lacrosse Championship

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -  [SCHEDULE | BRACKET] The 2023 NAIA Women’s Lacrosse Championship will open up play with four quarterfinal games on Wednesday, May 3 in Southfield, Mich.

Highlights

  • This year’s championship field consists of five automatic qualifiers and three at-large bids.
  • This is the third year of the NAIA Women’s Lacrosse Championship.
  • The tournament is a single-elimination bracket starting with the quarterfinal round.
  • Seven of the eight teams also qualified for the previous two championships in 2021 and 2022.
  • Defending national champion Benedictine (Kan.) returns to the championship field.
  • Keiser (Fla.) who was the first NAIA champion also returns to the championship field.
  • Three of the eight teams are from Georgia: Life (Ga.), Reinhardt (Ga.) and SCAD Savannah (Ga.)
  • There are no teams entering the championship that are undefeated on the season.
  • Benedictine (Kan.) and Keiser (Fla.) have been the only teams to hold the No. 1 spot in the Top 10 this season.
  • Cumberlands (Ky.) opened the season at No. 6 and worked its way up to No. 2 in the final two polls of the season.
  • Lawrence Tech (Mich.), Keiser (Fla.) and Reinhardt (Ga.) remained inside the Top 5 all season long.
  • Lawrence Tech (Mich.) enters championship play with a 12-game win streak.
  • There are three goalies that hold a blemish-free win percentage on the season and two of them will be competing for a title with their team: Mia Bosah of Cumberlands (Ky.) and Margaret Wroe of Keiser (Fla.).

 

  • Players to Watch
    • Bella Ricchiazzi, Cumberlands (Ky.) – leads the nation in four different categories: goals (87), points (134), shots (132) and shots on goal (113). She is also ranked second in the nation in assists with 47 on the season.
    • Jillian Mello, Reinhardt (Ga.) – is ranked second in the nation in shots with 126 and third in the nation in shots on goal with 101.
    • Gianna Stalletti, Benedictine (Kan.) – is ranked second in the nation in save percentage at 54.5.
    • Mia Bosah, Cumberlands (Ky.) - leads the nation in save percentage at 64.7%.
    • Mia Griswold, Reinhardt (Ga.) – leads the nation in ground balls with 123.
    • Emma Rittman, Cumberlands (Ky.) – leads the nation in draw controls with a season total of 148.
    • Bella Burke, Lawrence Tech (Mich.) – is ranked second in the nation in caused turnovers with a season total of 51.
    • Olivia McCarrell, Cumberlands (Ky.) – leads the nation in wins while in goal with 13 on the season. McCarrell is also third in the nation in save percentage at 53.3%.
