Day One Recap of NAIA Women’s Golf National Championship

SILVIS, Ill. – [Championship Schedule] Opening the 2023 NAIA Women’s Golf National Championship at TPC Deere Run, the course proved its mettle with no individual scores under par and the University of British Columbia leading the team competition after their 293 (+9).

Behind the Thunderbirds, the team top-five rounded out with Keiser (Fla.) in second at 297 (+13), Dalton State (Ga.) in third at 301 (+17), Oklahoma City in fourth at 303 (+19), and William Carey (Miss.) in fifth at 305 (+21).

UBC feasted on par threes and par fives as they shot under par at -2 on the par fives and +2 on the par threes to lead all teams on those types of holes.

Three individual players finished with an even par 71 as MaKayla Tyrrell of OCU, Jessica Ng of British Columbia, and Hannah Ulibarri of The Master’s (Calif.) ended their first 18 holes tied for first. Ng led the field with five birdies as both Tyrrell and Ulibarri finished with three birdies each.

Tyrrell and Ng finished at even as part of the morning wave of golfers while temperatures were more manageable while Ulibarri shot the lowest score of all competitors in the afternoon wave when temperatures reached as high as 87 degrees.

Only two players were able to card a score on a hole better than a birdie as Jessica Edwards from University of South Carolina Beaufort scored an eagle on the No. 1 and Abigail Wickham of William Carey got a hole-in-one on the par three third hole.
