Braves Claim Flag Finals Title

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – [BOX SCORE] Ottawa (Kan.) continued its dominance in the early days of NAIA Women’s Flag Football on Friday by claiming the 2024 NAIA Flag Finals title with a 26-6 win over Keiser (Fla.) in Atlanta. The title was the team’s fourth consecutive as the sport continues to build toward Invitational status.

Ottawa needed a pair of wins on Friday to continue its dominance and did just that. After a semifinal victory over Warner (Fla.) in the semifinal of Bracket A, the Braves faced-off against Keiser (Fla.) in the penultimate game.

The contest went scoreless in the first quarter, but both offenses sprung to life in the second under the lights of the Mercedes Benz Dome. The Braves led the scoring with a 10-play drive that was capped-off with a Madysen Carrera touchdown pass to Addison Orsborn to make it a 6-0 game in favor of the Braves.

Keiser responded with just under two minutes remaining in the half. Jazmin Rhoden connected with Brianna Hernandez-Silva for a 15-yard touchdown to tie the game at six. Just seconds before halftime, however, the Braves took the lead for good. Carrera marched her team down the field to record her second score of the game on a pass to Jazlyn Camacho to put Ottawa up 13-6 heading into the half.

The Braves went on to score 13 unanswered points to close out the NAIA Flag Finals victory. Carrera finished the day 34-41 in the air with 246 yards and four touchdowns. Alyssa Linkous led the receiving corps for Ottawa with 80 yards and a pair of second half touchdowns.

Leading the way for the Seahawks was Rhoden with 274 yards of passing and one touchdown.

The win made it four in a row for the Braves while the Seahawks came-up one win shy of matching the Seahawks men’s football team in the Fall who took home their first red banner.
