2020 NAIA Division II Women's Basketball COVID-19 Update

2020 NAIA Division II Women's Basketball COVID-19 Update

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) is aware of current concerns with the COVID-19 virus across the United States. We are continuously monitoring updates as they progress.

The remainder of the NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championship tournament at the Tyson Events Center will limit fan attendance effective immediately. Attendance will be limited to teams (official travel party), essential staff members, and credentialed personnel only, beginning Thursday, March 12. Participating teams will be provided a specific allotment of wristbands each day of their respective game. This decision is made in conjunction with the NAIA Men’s Basketball Championship in Sioux Falls.

"After a thorough examination of the widespread health risks posed by COVID-19, the NAIA has decided to restrict attendance at all championships to only essential staff and limited family members," said NAIA President and CEO Jim Carr. "We know this is disappointing to participating student-athletes and fans, but the health and wellness of all those involved with our championship events is our top priority."

The NAIA is in constant communication with the management team of the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City regarding our DII Women’s Basketball National Championship. Together, we will continue to closely monitor the situation, so that we can quickly make adjustments should the CDC or local authorities recommend different or amended precautionary measures.

The safety and well-being of the student athletes, teams, fans, and everyone involved in hosting the tournament is our top priority at this time.

All ticket purchases will be refunded at the point of purchase.
