KANSAS CITY, Mo. –Melissa Akullu of Vanguard (Calif.) has been named the NAIA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Akullu was selected based on their performance from February 5 - 11 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/Continental Athletic Conference (Independents)/unaffiliated group nominees.

Players of the week are announced weekly throughout the regular season on Tuesdays on naia.org, Instagram and Twitter.

NAIA Women's Basketball Player of the Week 

Melissa Akullu, Vanguard (Calif.) - SR - Center/Forward

• Posted a double-double (19 points, 12 rebounds) in a win over Menlo (Calif.) 
• Recorded a double-twenty (28 points, 26 rebounds) in a win over Jessup (Calif.)
• Went 10-for-15 from the field for a 64.5 field goal percentage on the week 
• Also added one assist and four steals last week
