Mobile, Ala. – (Bracket | Schedule) No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett and No. 4 Tennessee Wesleyan will meet in the finals of the 2023 NAIA Men’s Tennis National Championship.
Game Notes & Highlights
- Georgia Gwinnett took the singles point after winning No. 1 (6-3) and No. 3 doubles (6-2).
- Following the doubles, the Grizzlies won No. 1 (Alex Gurmendi; 6-1, 6-3), No. 2 (Dhakshineswar Suresh; 6-2, 6-1) and No. 6 (Charly Zick; 6-4, 6-1).
- Tennessee Wesleyan won at No. 1 (6-4) and No. 2 (6-4) doubles to earn the all important doubles point.
- Additionally, the Bulldogs took No. 1 singles (Oscar Ortiz; 6-2, 6-4), No. 4 (Zoilo Rios; 6-4, 6-3) and No. 6 (Octavio Volpi; 6-2, 7-6 (7-4 tiebreaker)).
- The Grizzlies will be playing in their 9th-straight finals, while Tennessee Wesleyan will be playing in the final match for the first time.
- The Bulldogs will become the first No. 4 seed to play in the championship match.
- 2023 will mark the first NAIA Men’s Tennis National Championship match without the No. 1 seed.
