Newcastle University to Partner with NAIA

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced that it has signed a partnership with Newcastle University as its new ‘Official International Graduate Athletics Program.” The agreement will span three years.

Newcastle University, one of the United Kingdom’s premiere universities, will now be able to partner with the NAIA’s member schools to offer student-athletes opportunities when their baccalaureate degrees have ended in the United States. Once their careers have ended, NAIA student-athletes will be able to seek academic and athletic endeavors with Newcastle.

“We are excited to form this relationship with Newcastle University,” said NAIA President and CEO, Jim Carr. “A chance to see the world after graduation and expand on their athletic and academic experiences overseas is a wonderful opportunity that we are glad to bring to our student-athletes and member institutions.

Once a student-athlete graduates, no matter if they have played a few games, a single season or exhausted their athletic eligibility in the United States, they can play in several leagues and sports in the UK at Newcastle.

“We are thrilled about this collaboration, which presents graduating student athletes with the opportunity to pursue their sport while earning a top-tier master's degree in one of the most popular student cities in the UK,” said Katy Storie, Newcastle University Athletic Director. “We believe that this partnership is a natural fit for both organisations with NAIA producing so many committed and talented student athletes looking to take their next steps and we are so excited to welcome them into our community.”

As a founding member of the Russell Group of Research intensive universities, and a Global Top 110 university (QS World University Rankings 2024), Newcastle University is dedicated to excellence, creativity and innovation, pioneering solutions that can change our world.
